    Children are enrolled based on age and income eligibility.
    To be age eligible for Head Start a child will  have to turn 3 or 4 years old by September 1st.
     
    Head Start enrolls families whose household income meets the income guidelines for eligibility:
    Total yearly household income is at or below 100% of poverty. For example, a family of 4, must have a total yearly income of
    $24,250.00 or below.
     
    Families who are automatically income eligible for Head Start:
    • If there is a family member in the household who receives SSI (Supplemental Security Income)
    • Families who receive on-going cash assistance (TANF or FIP)
    • Foster children
    • Homeless Families.
    • Head Start can reserve 10% of its slots for families who are over-income.
     
    FAQs
    Does my child have to be potty-trained in order to be accepted?
    The answer is no. A child cannot be denied enrollment because he is not potty-trained.
     
    Is there transportation?
    Head Start provides some transportation services based on distance from school and availability
    of space on the bus.
     
    What if my child is not selected at the beginning of the school year? Does that mean he/she will not be enrolled?
    Head Start continually enrolls throughout the school year. As vacancies occur, children are enrolled.
