Dr. Dedrick Martin Selected as Next KRESA Superintendent

Dr. Dedrick MartinWe are pleased to announce that the Kalamazoo RESA (KRESA) Board of Education has made a decision in its superintendent search process. Following a thorough selection process that involved the input and engagement of staff, public, and our leadership team, the board has decided to begin contract negotiations with Dr. Dedrick Martin to become the next Superintendent of Kalamazoo RESA.

The search process was comprehensive and thorough. It involved gathering valuable feedback from our staff and the public through a series of focus groups and an online survey. Candidates were further evaluated through multiple rounds of interviews and were given opportunities to visit various KRESA facilities. Additionally, we held meetings with KRESA's Leadership Team and local superintendents, making sure that the selection process was as inclusive as possible.

Dr. Martin brings with him an impressive and diverse educational background. Since 2018, he has been the Superintendent in Caledonia, Michigan. Before this, he served as the Director of Partnership Districts and State Reform Officer with the Michigan Department of Education for a year. He has also served as Superintendent of St. Johns Public Schools for five years and Superintendent of Ypsilanti Public Schools for four years. His experience extends further to being the Executive Director of Equity and Student Achievement for Champaign Unit 4 School District in Illinois for five years and serving as the Elementary Principal and Assistant Principal for the Fort Bend Independent School District (Sugar Land, Texas) for five years. Dr. Martin began his illustrious career as a Special Education Teacher in Sugar Land, Texas.

We are excited about the experience and passion for education that Dr. Martin will bring to our organization. His demonstrated leadership, educational expertise, and commitment to equity and achievement will be valuable assets for Kalamazoo RESA and the communities we serve.

The anticipated start date for our new superintendent is July 1. We are looking forward to welcoming Dr. Martin into his new role, confident in the knowledge that his leadership will guide our district into a bright future.
