Update: Superintendent Search

After initial interviews with candidates, the Board of Education has decided to invite two candidates back for a second round of interviews on May 1.
Matt Olson will interview at 5:00 pm and Dedrick Martin will interview at 6:30 pm.
The interviews will take place at 1819 East Milham Avenue, Portage, Michigan. The public is welcome to attend.
Mr. Olson has served in his current position since 2020. Previously, he served as Superintendent of Benzie County Central Schools for four years, Director of Innovation for the Lapeer Community Schools for two years, Middle School Principal for Lapeer for four years, Middle and Intermediate School Principal for Holly Area Schools for two years, and Junior High Principal, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director for Mt. Morris Consolidated Schools for three years. Mr. Olson also taught and coached in Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools for five years.
Dr. Martin has been Superintendent in Caledonia since 2018. Previously, he served as Director of Partnership Districts and State Reform Officer with the Michigan Department of Education for one year, Superintendent of St. Johns Public Schools for five years, Superintendent of Ypsilanti Public Schools for four years, Executive Director of Equity and Student Achievement for Champaign Unit 4 School District in Illinois for five years, and Elementary Principal and Assistant Principal for the Fort Bend Independent School District (Sugar Land, Texas) for five years. Dr. Martin began his career as a Special Education Teacher in Sugar Land, Texas.
It is anticipated the new Superintendent will begin their duties on July 1.
