Newly Formed CTE Steering Committee Convenes for First Meeting
What is the Purpose of the CTE Steering Committee?
The CTE Steering Committee is a cohort of roughly 50 local education, business and community leaders convened to recommend CTE course areas to the Kalamazoo RESA Board of Education. To formulate their recommendations, the committee will partner with the KRESA team and leaders at the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research to analyze key data points related to projected industry/occupation growth, wages and levels of education required for entry into the workforce. Course recommendations will inform facilities design for the forthcoming CTE Center.
The steering committee will integrate perspectives from education, community and business to help ensure that our county's redesigned CTE program and future CTE Center will provide meaningful, equitable opportunities for young people to see what they can be and develop their skills, all while supporting a thriving, more equitable region.
Steering Committee Co-Chairs:
Designing a world-class CTE system requires close collaboration between education and industry. Therefore, the CTE steering committee will be cochaired by an industry and educator champion, chosen for their expertise, passion and connections to the community:
Education Champion: Dr. Rita Raichoudhuri Superintendent of Kalamazoo Public Schools
Industry Champion: Dave Maurer President and Chief Financial Officer of Humphrey Products
Data-Driven Course Selection:
To guide decision-making for future course selection, the CTE Steering Committee will use a rigorous course scoring rubric designed by the W. E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research. The scoring system will provide a standardized approach to evaluating each course area as the Steering Committee prepares course area recommendations to present to KRESA's Board of Education in the fall of 2021.
