WoodsEdge Learning Center to Implement Literature-Based Adapted Curriculum

The Kalamazoo RESA WoodsEdge Learning Center announced the implementation of enCORE, a comprehensive, adapted core curriculum designed to deliver standards-based instruction to students with disabilities.

Designed around well-known literature themes, such as Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and more, the curriculum offers a blended approach of hands-on learning, technology facilitated lessons and individualized instruction across English language arts, math, science and social studies.

“We appreciate the rich connection of all lessons to the fiction and non-fiction stories within all of the subject areas. Our students need us to make those connections for them in order for them to learn even more,” said Angela Telfer, Director of WoodsEdge Learning Center. “The fact that the fiction stories are literature that parents and families are familiar with will be a great way to get families involved with student learning. The data collection and monitoring system within enCORE will give us very individualized ways to analyze and use assessment information to inform instruction and document progress.”
