Meet Up & Eat Up Combats Summer Food Gap

Free lunch with Meet Up & Eat Up Meet Up & Eat Up will once again provide free, healthy meals to children all summer long at 47 locations across Kalamazoo County.

Created to fight the summer food gap, Meet Up & Eat Up ensures that children have access to nutritious meals during the long months of summer vacation.

All are welcome to attend, with free meals Available to all kids under the age of 18 years old, Meet Up & Eat Up also features adult meals for only $2.00.

According to Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes, hunger in Kalamazoo County is an ongoing battle. Nearly 38,000 local residents are considered food insecure, including more than 9,000 children. Additionally, 70% of students who attend Kalamazoo Public Schools are eligible for the free or reduced-price lunch program. 19% of households with a child or teenager live below the poverty line and 8% of local senior citizens live on less than $12,000 each year.

The 2019 Meet Up & Eat Up location sites, dates and times, as well as more information about the summer food service program can be found online at kresa.org/meetup.

All Meet Up & Eat Up locations will close on Thursday, July 4. Additionally, sites may move indoors or be canceled in the event of inclement weather.
