Six of Kalamazoo RESA's Education for the Arts (EFA) Advanced Musical Theatre students recently earned Sutton Foster Award nominations. They are set to compete on June 1, 2024, at the Wharton Center, with a chance at $1,000 scholarships. Top Michigan performers will train in New York City with a $25,000 scholarship.

During the competition, the students will be performing a compilation of the parts they played in the following musicals at their respective high schools this year:

  • Braeden Davis and Ellen Terzino for Curly McClain and Ado Annie Carnes in Oklahoma at Loy Norrix High School.
  • Carly Koch and Seth Taylor for Cady Heron and Damian Hubbard in Mean Girls at Portage Central High School.
  • Ava Grunder and Noah Aiello for Ariel and Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid at Portage Northern High School.

Hats off to EFA Advanced Musical Theatre instructor Denene Mulay-Koch, vocal coaches Corlyn Longer-Schreck and Whitney Weiner, choreographer Kris Stahl, and accompanist Tissie Hughey.
