Core Performance Indicators

  • Federal guidelines require each Career & Technical Education (CTE) program to use certain quantitative measures to monitor the quality of the CTE program. These measures are called Core Performance Indicators and they consider academic and technical performance, graduation from high school, placement in post-secondary education, and preparation for the workforce.     Definitions for the Core Performance Indicators:

    1S1 Academic Attainment in Reading/Language Arts

    • Numerator: Number of CTE students who have met the proficient or advanced level on the statewide Michigan Merit Exam (MME) in reading/language arts.
    • Denominator: Number of CTE students who took the MME assessment in reading/language arts.

     

    1S2 Academic Attainment in Mathematics

    • Numerator: Number of CTE students who have met the proficient or advanced level on the statewide MME in mathematics.
    • Denominator: Number of CTE students who took the MME assessment in mathematics.

     

    2S1 Technical Skill Attainment

    • Numerator: Number of students who passed the technical skill assessments.
    • Denominator: Number of CTE students who took the technical skill assessments. 

     

    3S1 School Completion

    • Numerator: Number of CTE students who earned a regular secondary school diploma.
    • Denominator: Number of CTE students who left secondary education during the reporting year.

     

    4S1 Student Graduation Rates

     

    5S1 Placement

    • Numerator: Number of 11th and 12th grade CTE completers who left secondary education and were placed in post-secondary education or advanced training, in the military, or employment in the 3rd quarter following the program year in which they left secondary education.
    • Denominator: Number of 11th and 12th grade CTE completers who left secondary education during the reporting year.

     

    6S1 Nontraditional Participation

    • Numerator: Number of CTE students from underrepresented gender groups who participated in a program that leads to employment in nontraditional fields during the reporting year.
    • Denominator: Number of CTE students who participated in a program that leads to employment in nontraditional fields during the reporting year.

     

    6S2 Nontraditional Completion

    • Numerator: Number of CTE students from underrepresented gender groups who completed a program that leads to employment in nontraditional fields.
    • Denominator: Number of CTE students from underrepresented gender groups who had participated in a program that leads to employment in the nontraditional fields.
