Adapted Physical Education (APE)
Adapted Physical Education (APE) is a specialized area of physical education designed to support students with diverse abilities. Through thoughtful modifications to activities, equipment, rules, and environments, APE ensures that every student can participate meaningfully, safely, and successfully in physical activity.
At its core, APE is about creating inclusive experiences where all students can learn, grow, and feel a sense of belonging.
Our Goals
Adapted Physical Education supports students in developing:
- Motor skills and coordination
- Physical fitness and overall well-being
- Social Skills
- Communication and independence
- Confidence through positive, active experiences
Meet the Teacher
Josh Gottlieb brings a unique and creative perspective to Adapted Physical Education. After teaching high school Physics for 20 years, he transitioned into APE and quickly discovered how his expertise could support innovative, hands-on experiences.
By designing customized equipment and activities Josh creates engaging opportunities where students learn through play, exploration, and discovery.
Josh values the joy, energy, and connection that comes from supporting students in ways that honor their strengths and individuality.
“I get to learn and play alongside incredible students every day.
There’s nothing better than that.”
— Josh Gottlieb, Special Education Teacher
