Technical Assistance
The Special Education Center of Excellence ensures that individuals with disabilities from birth through age 26 receive the services they need to learn, grow, and thrive.
How to Access Services
Kalamazoo RESA, along with the local districts and Public-School Academies in our service area, provides a continuum of programs and services for individuals with disabilities birth to age 26 at no cost.
Public schools have an obligation to find children/young adults who have disabilities and may be entitled to special education and related services. This process is known as "Child Find."
If disability is suspected, contact the following based on the child/young adult’s age:
- Birth-3: Contact Early On at (269) 250-9649
- Ages 3-5: Contact PET at (269) 250-9670
- Ages 5-17: Contact the classroom teacher and/or building administrator
- Ages 18+: Contact your teacher or instructor
Each school district in Kalamazoo RESA's service area is a member of a special education regional service area. Questions about special education, how to obtain services, or what to do if a disability is suspected can also be directed to these regional offices, as well as KRESA. The location and contact information are listed below:

Parent Advisory Committee
The Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) was established by the Michigan Mandatory Education Act to ensure parents have input into the development of the countywide plan for special education programs and services. Parents are nominated by their local boards of education and appointed by the Kalamazoo RESA board of education to serve a three-year term.
