Our team offers free developmental evaluations for young children ages 3 through 5, up to the time they start kindergarten
If you suspect that your preschool-age child may have a developmental delay or disability that could require special education support, KRESA is here to help. Our team of specialists will play and work with your child during an intake appointment to see how they are developing and guide you through the next steps to ensure your child gets any extra help they might need before starting school.
Who should be evaluated?
You might consider a developmental screening appointment for your child if, by age 3 to 5, you notice significant concerns such as:
- Difficulty talking or being understood
- Trouble learning new skills or understanding directions
- Difficulties with social interactions or play skills for their age
- Sensory or behavior challenges that interfere with learning
- Or any condition that you feel is holding your child back
You do not need a formal diagnosis or referral to contact our office – parents can self-refer if they have concerns about their child’s development.
How to Obtain Services
Parents/guardians can call the KRESA Early Intervention team directly at (269) 250-9670 to speak with our referral coordinator. You can also talk to your local school district’s special education office, and a district may initiate the referral on your behalf.

What to Expect
Our team will gather information from family, physicians and any preschool/childcare as part of our intake process. We may ask you a few questions about your concerns and your child’s background, then schedule an appointment. If special education concerns are indicated, a multidisciplinary team will conduct a comprehensive developmental evaluation of your child, which may include a school psychologist, speech-language therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, early childhood special education teacher, hearing or vision specialist, depending on your child’s needs. After the assessment, the team will meet with you to discuss the results and recommendations.
