Special Ed staff honored

Kalamazoo RESA honored outstanding special education staff members with the 2011-12 Excellence in Special Education Awards. The awards process is administered by the Kalamazoo RESA Parent Advisory Committee. The nominees and winners were selected by parents of students who receive special education services in Kalamazoo County. Staff members were chosen based on communication skills, advocacy and for “going the extra mile” when working for children with special needs. All nominees were recognized for their achievement.  

Winners are: Speech therapist Sarah Vomastek and teacher Pamela Nyhof, both at WoodsEdge Learning Center, and teacher Mark Hubbard, with the Young Adult Program.

Nominees included: Parchment Central Elementary teacher Kristin Klok, YAP teacher Cynthia Courtade, YAP parapro Corlis Watkins, Juvenile Home School-Intensive Learning Center teacher Pamela Nap, Great Start FIT physical therapist Barbara Stewart, Juvenile Home School-Intensive Learning Center teacher Mark Kirkpatrick, Woods Edge Learning Center teachers David Melotti and Robert Shelby Bishop.
