Supporting Families as a Michigan Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplace
Kalamazoo RESA has been honored as a Michigan Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplace for the second time since 2017.
The respected award is presented by the Michigan Breastfeeding Network (MIBFN), a statewide collaborative that actions for advocacy, education and coalition-building in creating a supportive breastfeeding culture within every Michigan community. MIBFN raises awareness that nursing protects infants from illnesses and provides a lifetime of benefits, while also benefiting mothers by reducing the risk of Type 2 diabetes, as well as uterine, breast and ovarian cancers.
The award honors organizations that recognize breastfeeding as the “gold standard” for infant feeding and support mothers with a private room and break time to pump upon their return from maternity leave.
As a Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplace, Kalamazoo RESA is committed to supporting new mothers. “Returning to work after having a baby can be an unexpected challenge for mothers,” said Jeni Opel, Kalamazoo RESA human resources manager. “I’m proud to work for an organization that supports new mothers in the workplace, easing that transition and creating a positive experience.”
