EFE Veterinary program honored by State of Michigan
Kalamazoo RESA’s Education for Employment Veterinary Science program is one of four programs in Michigan to receive the 2016 Excellence in Practice Award from the Michigan Department of Education. The award highlights Career and Technical education programs that prepare Michigan’s students for future careers and higher education. The Veterinary Science program is a successful wide-ranged training curriculum where students learn the fundamentals of veterinary science through hands-on experiential learning, as well as conducting original research projects. Students also complete an internship to ensure proper training for future opportunities. The program is exceptional for its relationship between students and community farms, businesses, and organizations that enable students to practice what they have learned.
“My EFE Vet Science program impacted me so much. It not only helped our learning but we have also greatly impacted our community. We have been interning at different veterinary offices and have been helping with different tasks around the farm—from vasectomies, castrations to necropsies and lambing. This has been the greatest learning opportunity of my high school career and I know many others will also greatly benefit from these experiences.”
