Duncan Aviation’s Collaboration with EFE Helps Students Careers Take Flight
This summer, Duncan Aviation Battle Creek began their partnership with Kalamazoo RESA’s Education for Employment program to find interns and future employees.
Duncan Aviation is a private, family-owned aviation business that runs a “nose to tail” operation. They provide aircraft acquisition and sales, airframe and engine maintenance, avionics installations, interior and paint completions/modifications, avionics/instrument/accessory repairs and overhauls, and parts support for both businesses and privately-owned airplanes. They have three main facilities located in Battle Creek, Michigan, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Provo, Utah along with smaller satellite shops located throughout the United States.
Each semester, Duncan Aviation hires two students from Kalamazoo RESA district schools as well as three students from Calhoun Area Career Center as interns. As interns, these students rotate through a range of the departments. They spend one to two weeks learning alongside the staff developing a wide range of skills. At the end of this rotation, students are then placed in the best fitting department for the remainder of their internship.
“Here at Duncan Aviation we are looking for students who are interested in more than just aviation,” said Todd Wright, Assistant Manager, Interior. “Students that have interests in automotive, construction trades, HVAC, interior design, or just working with their hands should consider applying to Duncan Aviation.”
This program has been very successful so far. This summer, of their five interns, three were offered full or part-time positions at the end of their internships.
