EFE Courses Launch Student's Career in Computer Science
Parker Turchan is heading to Michigan Tech this fall to study computer science and, thanks to Education for Employment (EFE), he has a bit of a leg up on his fellow students.
His junior and senior of high school, Turchan took a total of three EFE courses, including two computer tech courses and one computer science course. Turchan graduated from Portage Northern in 2018 with a long list of certifications including CompTIA A+, Network +, Security +, C++ Certified Associate Programmer Certificate, and more, all earned during his EFE courses. “EFE exposed me to a lot of good things I didn’t know about computer science,” he said.
“Parker has that marvelous combination of intelligence, self-motivation, and a desire to learn. That is a winning combination for any student,” said Rostam Ahmad Daud, Computer Science and Technology Instructor. “He would help others understand the material when they struggled and was often the first to volunteer when help was needed. His exploration of both information technology and computer science will open many opportunities for him.”
Turchan’s advice to students considering taking an EFE course: “Just do it. EFE gives you real-life skills.”
