The Student Voice: EMC Club Launches

The Early/Middle College (EMC) club had its first-ever meeting at  Kalamazoo Valley Community College!

Made up of students in EMC programs through Kalamazoo RESA, Gull Lake Community Schools, and Van Buren Technology Center, the club allows students to collaborate monthly and build a community that understands the unique journey of earning a degree while still in high school.

The new club was created by KRESA's Early/Middle College Student Leadership Group (SLG). The SLG is made up of 10 students who are the student voice of EMC at KRESA. In this group, the students focus on professional development, attend leadership conferences, and host guest speakers.

By developing the new EMC club, the students are able to meet monthly, collaborate, and learn from each other.

KRESA's EMC program is an innovative early college program that gives students the opportunity to earn an associate degree or certificate with an additional year of high school. Through their education plan, EMC students are gradually introduced to college courses over a five-year span, with the ninth-grade year being comprised solely of traditional high school classes.
