Dr. Martin Selected as MASA Region VII Superintendent of the Year
Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency Superintendent, Dr. Dedrick Martin, has been named the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators (MASA) 2026 Region VII Superintendent of the Year. “I’m deeply humbled and honored to be recognized by my peers for work that reflects my passion for creating high-quality educational environments where all students can thrive.”

Dr. Martin joined KRESA as Superintendent in July 2023. Under his leadership, KRESA has continued to expand opportunities for students and strengthen supports for local school districts. He oversaw the completion and opening of the KRESA Career Connect Campus, a centralized, state-of-the-art facility serving approximately 1,400 students annually in Career and Technical Education. He also led the successful passage of the Special Education Millage Renewal, ensuring continued access to essential services for students with disabilities. In addition, Dr. Martin has brought an increased focus to the quality of math instruction, working alongside superintendents and instructional leaders across the county to support ongoing improvement in student learning outcomes.
“As a seasoned superintendent across multiple districts, Dr. Martin possesses a depth of knowledge and expertise that distinguishes him as an exemplary regional leader,” said Kalamazoo Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Darrin Slade in his nomination letter. “Since his arrival, he has made it a priority to support superintendents both within Region VII and across the state.”
Region VII includes the public school and intermediate school districts in Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Van Buren counties. The award was presented as a surprise during the Region VII superintendents meeting on May 1, 2026.
Eligible candidates are superintendents within the Region VII area who are making an outstanding contribution in educational leadership to their school district, students, community, and Region VII.
