Qualifications for All Substitute Teachers in Kalamazoo County, MI:
- 60 credit hours from a 2 or 4-year accredited college or university
- Official college transcript (copy of official transcript is acceptable) OR
- A Michigan teaching certificate. If certificate is expired, you are eligible for a substitute permit.
Qualifications for Substitute Paraprofessional in Kalamazoo County, MI:
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent
- Willingness to work with students

Criminal Record Check & Fingerprint Requirements
The State of Michigan requires that all substitute teachers have Live Scan fingerprints dated after January 1, 2006.
If the criminal history check and criminal records check have been completed for a particular individual and the results reported to a school district, ISD, public school academy, or nonpublic school, then another criminal history check or criminal records check is not required for that individual as long as the individual remains employed with no separation from service.
If you were printed previously but have separated from service, you will need to have new prints taken.
