Denene MulayAdvanced Musical Theatre Instructor For 22 years, Denene has been a driving force for the arts at Kalamazoo RESA, carrying on a legacy started by her mother, Kathy Mulay, who designed the class over three decades ago. Based at Loy Norrix High School, Denene teaches acting techniques that bridge the gap between classic foundations and contemporary styles. The students also get to experience the arts outside of the classroom, like when she was able to take her students to New York City in 2018 to study at the legendary HB Studios. For Denene, the goal goes beyond the stage. Whether her students pursue Broadway or a completely different career path, she wants them to leave her classroom with a lifelong appreciation for the arts and the confidence to express themselves. More than just a class, her program is a supportive family. Denene knows that performing in front of peers requires immense bravery, so her class has become a safe environment where students feel empowered to explore their potential. |
