Since the passage of the Michigan Mandatory Special Education Act in 1971, parents have had a legally defined role in the planning of county-wide special education services for their children. Each local board of education within the Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency nominates a member and an alternate to serve on the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC), who in turn are approved by the Kalamazoo RESA Board of Education.
The Committee acts in an advisory capacity to Kalamazoo RESA and is charged with cooperatively developing the county-wide plan for special education programs and services. We represent each impairment area, and we welcome input from other parents.
Beginning September 2017, the PAC meets every other month: September, November, January and May at 12 noon - 1 p.m. and in March at 6 - 8 p.m., at the Kalamazoo RESA Service Center, 1819 E. Milham Avenue. Meetings are open to the public and parents are encouraged to attend.
Meeting scheduled in other locations will be posted, as they occur, on the website and Kalamazoo RESA calendar prior to the meeting.
