ASD Offsite Classroom Teacher at Portage Central Elementary
WoodsEdge Learning Center
How long have you worked at Kalamazoo RESA?
I started working as a part time classroom teacher at Croyden in 2006. In 2008, I began working at the Young Adult Program. In 2010, I moved to teach at WoodsEdge in an ASD classroom for students ages 18-26. When I became pregnant with my first child, I transitioned to an offsite classroom in 2011. I have taught in the offsite classroom for the last 6 years.
Describe your job, in three sentences or less:
My job is like reading a mystery book. You never know what twist and turns will occur on a daily basis. Wake up daily and be positive, patient, and persistent.
What is your favorite book, movie or TV show?
Charlotte’s Web- I love to read chapter books with my children.
How do you relax at the end of the day?
To help me relax I like to play with my children. I don’t take much time to myself, but I love to be with my family!
What's something people would be surprised to know about you?
I have actually touched a snake. I am extremely scared of snakes (can’t even look at pictures of them). My paraprofessional took a picture of my touching the snake to demonstrate the shades that I turned while touching the snake. I was so shaky at the end I had to sit down.
